WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene)

Hope and Care for Development (HC4D)

At HC4D, our motto is "Hygiene for Health, Water for Life"

The Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Program at Hope and Care for Development (HCD) is dedicated to improving access to clean drinking water, promoting safe sanitation practices, and strengthening hygiene awareness in communities across Western Equatoria State.

Through this program, HCD supports the construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, the establishment of water user committees, and the implementation of community-led total sanitation. Our work ensures that families—especially women and children—can access safe water free from contamination and enjoy healthier, more dignified living conditions.

We also conduct hygiene education in schools and communities, teaching essential practices such as handwashing, safe water storage, menstrual hygiene management, and disease prevention. These activities help reduce the spread of waterborne illnesses, lower child mortality, and improve overall well-being.

By combining water access, sanitation improvement, and hygiene education, the WASH Program empowers communities to take ownership of their health, protect their environment, and build sustainable systems that benefit future generations.

At HCD, we believe that clean water is not a privilege—it is a right, and providing it creates the foundation for stronger, healthier communities.
